Advanced Development Coach (Formerly Level 2)

National Coaching Certification Program Advanced Development Coach

The Advanced Development coaching program is designed for coaches working athletes in the Learn to Compete LTAD stage, and is required for Head Coaches in the 17-18U club categories. The program has four distinct steps required for certification. Completion of each step also provides the coach with one of three coaching "designations": In Training, Trained, or Certified.

Beginning the 2016/17 season Head Coaches must follow the NEW NCCP certification requirements. Even certified coaches may not have some of the training required, so read through the policy carefully.
2017 Volleyball Alberta & Volleyball Canada Coach Certification Policy

Step 1 - In Training: completion of Volleyball Canada e-modules

These modules are now a prerequisite to the in-person volleyball workshop. E-modules must be completed prior to registering for the volleyball workshop. The modules are done on-line and take approximately 6 hours to complete. These modules are designed to provide all the necessary information a volleyball coach will need prior to the volleyball workshop. The content of the modules will be applied and practiced in the workshop. To being the e-modules click Here.

Step 2 - In Training: successful completion of the Advanced Development Volleyball Workshop

This focuses on helping coaches to more effectively train athletes within the 17-18U age category and more advanced stages of skill development. Coaches will be expected to participate in a series of learning experiences designed to assist them in applying proven methods of coach intervention and practice design. Coaching abilities will be assessed throughout the workshop in a cooperative peer lead environment.

To enroll in an Advanced Development workshop, you need to first complete the Volleyball Canada e-modules and you will be prompted to sign up for the next available workshop.

The workshop schedule can be viewed at the bottom of the page.

Step 3 - Trained: Successful completion of the Multi-Sport Modules

The multisport modules include: Plan a Practice, Nutrition, Make Ethical Decisions, Design a Basic Sport Program, and Basic Mental Skills. These workshops can be taken prior to the volleyball workshop. These modules are offered by Alberta Sport Connection, not Volleyball Alberta. Courses are offered in-person and through home study.
