***Please Note***

1. All Schedules are subject to change, and it is recommended to check the schedule the night before the tournament you are assigned for the most updated version.

2. Due to the low Referee numbers in Alberta, some schedules will be posted which have matches without a Referee, I will keep searching until I find a Referee to fill the empty voids.

F.A.Q

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I get Assigned matches at VA Club Tournaments?

 - At the top of this page, please find the "Availability Forms" Header, below it will have a link to fill out a form!

2. Am I guaranteed to get matches for the weekends I state I am available? How do I find out if I am Reffing a tournament?

 - No one is guaranteed any matches, tournaments are assigned based on many factors which may include, Badge Level, Location of Tournament, Age Class, Division, Availability, Schedule Template, Supervisor/Zone Lead recommendations and many more.

 - You will be emailed stating you are on a schedule which will be posted above under the "VA Premier Club Tournament List". There are many tournaments a weekend, so please ensure you are checking the correct schedule under the "Referee Schedule Link" on the table above.

3. Are Hotels, Meals or Parking covered when I travel to Referee?

 - Our Courtside Logistics Coordinator will book Hotels for all travelling Referees and pass on that information. You cannot purchase your own hotel room and ask to be reimbursed; VA must book it for you.

 - Meal allowance is given, $17 per meal when you are staying in a hotel. If the hotel provides breakfast, $17 will not be paid for that meal.

- If you are driving to any event, Meal allowance is not given as you have the opportunity to eat before leaving, and arriving at home, while having the option to pack a lunch.

- Parking is only covered at locations that free parking is not avaliable, some examples are MacEwan Univeristy and Mount Royal University. To be reimbursed, simply email courtside@volleyballalberta.ca with a picture of the receipt and it will be cover, valet parking at any location will not be. ***Paid Parking at the Saville will not be reimbursed***

4. When am I eligible to be paid mileage and how much?

 - Mileage is only paid when you are refereeing a tournament that is in another city/town than where you reside (Based on your registration details). Below will be examples, please read carefully as there are some scenarios which don't exactly follow the rule above. The driver is paid $.50/km from the City/Town they reside in to the city/town they are travelling to and back home. The passenger does not get mileage.

For Example: A Referee from Lethbridge is driving to Rally Pointe in Calgary for a tournament, it would be calculated as Lethbridge to Calgary, Calgary to Lethbridge, total of (215km+212km) = 427km = $213.50 paid in Mileage.

Location Of Tournament No Mileage Given if you reside in these Cities/Towns
Edmonton Edmonton, St Albert, Sherwood Park
Spruce Grove Spruce Grove and 15km radius around
Leduc Leduc and 15km radius around
Calgary Calgary
Okotoks Okotoks
Airdrie Airdrie
Red Deer Red Deer and 30km radius
Any other location 30km from the town to the town the Referee resides in.

5. What are the roles of a Referee Supervisors and how are they paid?

 - The only roles of a Referee Supervisor at the VA Club tournaments is to manage, mentor, and possibly evalaute referees within the event you have been assigned. If a referee doesn't show, or leaves due to sickness/injury, it is expected you either step in to Referee or rearrange the schedule. The goal is to have 2 Supervisors per tournament, but sometimes that cannot happen due to the low Referee registration numbers. The Referee Supervisor needs to provide insight/mentorship to referees in a respectable, positive and contructive manner with the Referee being mentored responding in the same manner.

 - If any problems are seen that are above and beyond the game (Issues with Parents, Issues after Ejection, or anything that would fall under VA's  Zero Tolerance Policy Approved Feb 11, 2022.pdf (volleyballalberta.ca) Please find a Full Time Staff member or a Tournament Rep to advise them of the issue.

 - Payment for Referee Supervisors is paid as the following:

Badge Level Match Rate x Amount of Game Time Slots they are Supervising for.

 For Example: A Level 4 Referee who Supervised the matches at 8am, 9am, 10am, 11am, Noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm would be paid....

        Level 4 VA Club Pay $33 x 10 Game Slots = $330 prior to the 5% Development
