Call for Nominations – 2026-2027 Board of Directors

Are you interested in helping guide the future of volleyball in Alberta?
Do you have experience and skills to help develop policy and provide governance for Volleyball Alberta?

We are currently seeking passionate candidates to join our Board of Directors.

Board candidates must be Eligible for the role, as defined in our bylaws as: Any individual who is eighteen (18) years of age or older, who meets one or more of the skills and attributes defined in the following section, who has the power under law to contract, is a Registrant of the Association in good standing, have not been declared incapable by a court in Canada or in another country and not have the status of bankrupt may be nominated for election as a Director.

Board candidates must possess qualifications and core competencies that would enhance our leadership team:

  • Clear understanding of the role of governance versus operational aspects of the organization
  • Strong understanding of the sport system
  • Strong communication skills – ability to share ideas and influence others
  • Visionary – able to see Volleyball Alberta in broad terms as part of the sport sector
  • Strategic – able to contribute to the development and execution of Volleyball Alberta’s strategic plan
  • Specific skills as identified by the Nominations Committee:
    – Legal designation (LL. B).
    – Accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA).
    – Personnel Management (Human Resource Professional designation).
    – Media/Marketing/Public Relations contacts/experience.
    – Fundraising and funding source contacts.
    – Government relations/contacts.
    – Organizational development/Strategic Planning experience.
    – Professional qualifications (MD, PhD, MBA, Sport Science).
    – Administration/Management experience.
    – Other skills valued by the Board of Directors.
    – Commitment and capacity (time, energy, expertise) to fulfill the commitment as a Director.
    – Previous board experience
    – Knowledge about the sport of volleyball.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for the VA Board of Directors by submitting their interest by 11:59 PM MT on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

A Nominations Committee will screening potential board candidates for suitability in advance of the 2025 Annual General Meeting, which will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2025, in Red Deer, AB

  • Candidates must meet Screening Requirements set out in Volleyball Alberta’s Screening Policy and be a member of Volleyball Alberta prior to the upcoming AGM.

The November 2025 AGM marks our first election cycle within our new Bylaws, which moves our Board size from 12 individuals to 9 individuals.  These Bylaws stipulate a minimum of three (3) directors will be elected at each AGM.  To maintain compliance with this requirement, the following plan will be utilized to elect six (6) Directors in November 2025.

  1. Three (3) members of our Board will continue serving their last year of their two-year term of which they were previously elected.  This includes Curt Clement, Pat Tod, and Chad Leier.
  2. From the list of candidates put forward by the Nominations Committee, the three (3) candidates who received the largest number of votes at the AGM will be elected for three-year terms.
  3. From the list of candidates put forward by the Nominations Committee, the three (3) candidates who received the 3rd, 4th, and 5th highest number of votes at the AGM will be elected for two-year terms.
