Sessions will run in all weather conditions, unless lightning or severe rain makes it unsafe to play.

Participants should always arrive as scheduled, even if it is raining, as weather conditions can change quickly.

All games should be considered a go
unless a cancellation is communicated via email or directly on this web page.

To check whether a league night has been cancelled, please refer to the notice posted at the top of this page.

Lightning Policy

Volleyball Alberta follows the 30/20 Rule established by the Canada Safety Council.

  • If thunder is heard within 30 seconds of seeing lightning, games will be immediately postponed.
  • All participants must leave the playing area and seek shelter in a building or automobile.
  • Do not stand under trees, in open fields, or under umbrellas.

Games may resume 20 minutes after thunder and lightning have cleared the area.
If thunder or lightning continues after 20 minutes, the game will be cancelled.

If a game is cancelled:

  • The score will stand as it was when play stopped
  • The game will count toward league standings only if the halfway point has been reached (11 points by one team)

For full details, please refer to the Volleyball Alberta Weather Policy.
