The Alberta Summer Games began as a government initiative for amateur sport, providing an opportunity for all Albertans to participate. The first Alberta Summer Games were held in Calgary in 1974; since then the Games have been hosted in different communities throughout the province every two years.
The next Alberta Summer Games will be held in July 16-19, 2026 in Strathcona County. For more information, visit the Alberta Sport website.

For the Alberta Games, the province is divided into eight zones and each zone is assigned a color for identification during the games.
Zone 1 – Sunny South (Grey)
Zone 2 – Big Country (Brown)
Zone 3 – Calgary (Red)
Zone 4 – Parkland (Orange)
Zone 5 – Black Gold/Yellowhead (Yellow)
Zone 6 – Edmonton (Green)
Zone 7 – North East (Navy Blue)

Athletes
All athletes must reside in the zone they wish to represent. To determine what zone you are eligible for, please review the Competition Structures and Zoning or the ASC Zones by Community list. Current provincial team members are NOT eligible.
Athletes interested in competing at the 2026 Alberta Summer Games will be required to participate in their respective zone tryouts in May/June 2026. Information on each of the zone tryouts, including how to register, will be posted in March/April of 2026.
Coaches
Coach position applications will be posted in August/September 2025 and selected by December 2025.
The maximum team size shall be:
4 athletes per Zone (2 females and 2 males)
4 coaches or chaperones per Zone (2 females and 2 males) – At least one (1) coach/chaperone must be the same gender as the team
Alberta Summer Games (ASG) zone teams will not be used as a vehicle for recruitment by clubs or private agencies. NO recruiting may occur during the identification (invite), tryout, training and/or competition periods by anyone, including the zone coaching staff. Violations will be sanctioned by Volleyball Alberta as a breach of the Volleyball Alberta Code of Conduct and is grounds for immediate dismissal.
All athletes trying out need to register prior to attending, and athletes must be active members of Volleyball Alberta. To successfully register you must first purchase a membership for the participant, create an account on VRS-Sportlomo, and then purchase the event (program/tryout) registration.
The minimum required membership for Alberta Summer Games Selection Camp tryouts is the 2026 Youth Recreational Player – Beach Membership.
Athletes selected to a team will need to upgrade their membership to the 2026 Youth Competitive Player – Beach. Already paid fees will discount from indoor to beach and from recreational to competitive (upgradable membership type).
Tryout fees may be refunded upon request if withdrawing before the tryout registration deadline, or if Volleyball Alberta cancels a Zone tryout due to insufficient participation. Membership fees are non-refundable.

For the Alberta Games, the province is divided into eight zones. Participants compete at zone playoffs, held prior to the Alberta Summer Games, where they earn the right to compete as a member of the zone team. Each zone will be allocated one team per gender (2 athletes).
