Ready to Host a Volleyball Alberta–Sanctioned Event?
Registered clubs in good standing may apply to have their 12U–18U tournaments sanctioned by Volleyball Alberta. Sanctioned events are covered under Volleyball Alberta’s insurance policy, ensuring all participating members are protected.
How to Get Started
- Review and complete the application process outlined in the boxes below.
- Once approved, your tournament will be posted in the appropriate age category tab below within three (3) business days.
Important Timelines
- Applications must be submitted at least fifteen (15) business days before your tournament start date to allow sufficient time for sanctioning approval and referee assignments.
- Applications submitted less than four (4) weeks before the tournament start date may still be considered; however, a $100 late fee will apply.

October 1 – Club Hosted Tournaments Sanctioning Submissions Are Open
Volleyball Alberta requires the organizer:
- Submit Club Hosted Event Form
- Confirm all teams are registered competitive members of Volleyball Alberta, Provincial Association & Volleyball Canada prior to participating so the tournament can be insured.
- If there is interest from an out of province team, the organizer will submit the team name and province to the eventsmanager@volleyballalberta.ca so VA can confirm membership with the team’s Provincial Sport Organization. VA encourages host organizers to do this as soon as possible to ensure the tournament can be sanctioned.

Need Event Referees?
All referee requests must be submitted by email to your Zone Referee Assignor (see list below).
To allow adequate time for referee assignments, please submit the following information a minimum of four (4) weeks prior to your tournament:
- Tournament name, location, and dates
- Age category
- Match format (best‑of‑three or best‑of‑five)
- Number of courts and number of matches on each court (please attach a draft schedule if available)
- Contact name and payment information for the payee
- Tournament schedule
Volleyball Alberta will make every effort to assign certified referees for your tournament. However, due to demand and the number of events on any given weekend, this may not always be possible.
If certified referees are not available, the tournament must utilize approved, registered Volleyball Alberta members who are screened as Persons in Authority (PIA) to perform officiating roles. We recommend using other coaches or club leaders, as they typically already meet these requirements.
If additional support is needed, individuals may purchase a VA Leader – Volunteer membership (approximately $22) and complete the remaining PIA requirements to become eligible to officiate.
