General Policies

VA Membership & Registrant Policy
This Policy was revised and approved by Volleyball Alberta and the Board of Directors on January 22, 2026
            Multi Membership Disclosure Form
As outlined in Section 21 of Volleyball Alberta’s Membership & Registrant Policy, all members or registrants who register with another volleyball governing body (provincial or national) during the season must disclose this by completing VA’s Multi Membership Disclosure Form. This helps ensure transparency and allows VA to support members in managing dual affiliations. Participation in unsanctioned events does not require disclosure unless it involves formal registration with another association.

Fairness & Safety in Sport Policy
The purpose of this Policy is to address matters of eligibility to participate in an amateur competitive sport, as required by the Government of Alberta’s Fairness and Safety in Sport Act, SA 2024, c F-2.5

Alberta Safe Sport Complaint Mechanism (ABSSCM)
The ABSSCM is Alberta’s independent system for reporting and resolving serious misconduct in sport (“maltreatment”), including physical/psychological abuse, sexual misconduct, harassment, discrimination, neglect, or boundary violations. It operates through the Alberta Universal Code of Conduct (“AB UCC”) and the ABSSCM Policies, applying to all sport activities whether in-person or online. [Accepted by Volleyball Alberta’s Board of Directors on January 22, 2026]

Alberta Universal Code of Conduct (AB UCC)
The AB UCC ensures everyone within the Alberta sport system jurisdiction plays by the same clear rules, using one independent, provincially run pathway (ABSSCM/ITPM) to address concerns. The AB UCC keeps all the protections of the national UCCMS and adds the Alberta‑specific pieces our PSOs, clubs, and participants need. [Accepted by Volleyball Alberta’s Board of Directors on January 22, 2026]

This protocol may not address every possible clinical scenario that can occur during sport-related activities but includes critical elements based on the latest evidence and current expert consensus.

Preventing Concussions in Volleyball – The Hitting Warm Up
Link to Volleyball Alberta YouTube video. A study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine highlighted that 28% of game related concussions occur during the warm-up. The warm-up is performed in a controlled environment and these head shots and concussions can be eliminated by following a hitting warm-up protocol that does not have any team members or participants inside the opposing court. The video will provide some examples for your team to follow so we can eliminate unnecessary head shots.
