Team Alberta Program Overview

Team Alberta is Volleyball Alberta’s provincial team program. It identifies athletes with the potential to excel and provides high-performance training and competition experiences to support their development.

For Athletes

Team AB helps athletes build technical, tactical, physical, and psychological skills while preparing for post-secondary, national team, and professional volleyball pathways.

For Coaches

The program also identifies, mentors, and develops coaches who have the potential to coach in high-performance environments.

Team Alberta Goals

Identify athletes with the potential to reach the next levels of volleyball.

Identify coaches with high-performance coaching potential.

Develop technical, tactical, physical, and psychological skills.

Mentor, develop, and educate coaches in a high-performance environment.

Build athlete and coach competence, character, confidence, and leadership.

Prepare athletes and coaches for post-secondary, national, Canada Cup, and Canada Games pathways.

Expectations for athletes participating in Team Alberta programs.

In order to get all volleyball players in Alberta onto a similar learning and training program, the Volleyball Alberta High Performance Committee was tasked with forming a curriculum for 16-to-18 year old athletes to follow. The below curriculums are living documents that will be updated every few years to reflect recent evidence and coach/athlete feedback.

Team Alberta Warm Up

The following Warm-up videos were developed by Carlyn Stilling based on sport science. All volleyball athletes are encouraged to watch and integrate these warm-ups into their everyday practice environments.

The following athlete agreement from a previous Team AB season demonstrates the expectations of all athletes that participate in Team AB and other high-performance programs with Volleyball Alberta.

Financial Assistance

Scholarships, grants, and community programs that may help athletes participate in Team Alberta.

Financial assistance for registration fees and equipment for eligible youth.

Up to $750 in funding for athletes who may not otherwise be able to participate.

Support high-performance athletes by donating bottle deposits to Volleyball Alberta.

KidSport Alberta

KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under

JumpStart

Jumpstart funding helps families that need a financial hand with registration, equipment and/or transportation costs.

Hugh Hoyles Scholarship –  Application Form
The Scholarship is intended for athletes who may not otherwise be able to participate in a  Team Alberta program (indoor or beach) due to their family’s financial situation. Applicants can receive up to $750 in funding to help subsidize the cost of participatingwith Team Alberta.
